“Hey, Raleigh – HANDS OFF our WATER!”

It’s now or never-

Rep. Tim Moffitt’s Study Committee has released their Draft Report. Our suspicions were right – Mofitt intends to use the power of the State to seize Asheville’s water system.
The Committee meets in Raleigh on April 19th to vote on whether or not to adopt this recommendation.

We have very little time to influence their decision – now is the time have your voice heard!
. Tell them to leave a well-run public utility alone;
. Tell them that our water system belongs in the hands of an elected body, not an appointed board;
. Tell them as citizens of Asheville/Buncombe County, we could likely end up subsidizing the expansion of water/sewer lines to benefit Henderson County;
. Tell them we don’t want the rate increases that the Metropolitan Sewage District (MSD) has already promised if they receive our water system;
. Tell them that years of litigation between the City and the State is a waste of taxpayer money;
. Tell them that the risks of privatized water are too great;
. Tell them that decisions about water belong in the hands of local citizens; and
. Tell them “Raleigh – Hands Off Our Water!”

Submit your comments to the Committee by Wednesday, April 18th. Submit them here.
